Meditation – is a broad definition more useful than a narrow one?

I found this from Ken Wilber which I like very much because it enlarges the idea and practice of meditation to the widest possible human activity;

“Meditation, then, is not so much a part of this or that particular religion, but rather part of the universal spiritual culture of all humankind–an effort to bring awareness to bear on all aspects of life. It is, in other words, part of what has been called the perennial philosophy.” Grace and Grit

Here Wilber is seeing the collective practice as ‘universal spiritual culture’. He might also agree that it is a universal activity, more or less developed in all individuals. In which case it is also ‘an effort to bring awareness to bear on all aspects of life’ whether channelled via a particular form, such as TM, or not.

To have such a definition seems to me to be essential in the task of spiritualizing education, and in developing education that will spiritualize.
