Why are the Lib Dems such wussies about getting Proportional Representation?

I’m appalled that Lib Dems are still thinking in terms of getting more votes than one of the major parties. UK politics must change (when will the British people wake up sufficiently)?  What matters is PR – Proportional Representation. The Lib Dems alone could achieve PR  but seem pathologically unwilling to do what is necessary.

The war + the robber-bankers + the expenses debacle might be the best opportunity to get PR over the last half-century.

Why are the Lib Dems (apparently) so gutless in horse-trading? I fully expect them to cock it up.

What steps are necessary to prove me wrong?
