Chris Irvine in the telegraph has reported that;
‘The Vatican has admitted that Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution
should not have been dismissed and claimed it is compatible with the
Christian view of Creation.’
Archbishop Gianfranco Ravasi, head of the Pontifical Council for Culture, said while the Church had been hostile to Darwin’s theory in the past, the idea of evolution could be traced to St Augustine and St Thomas Aquinas.
Well, well well so truth is one but in different modes – fancy that!

I was being sarcastic. I do appreciate such statements because for me there is no conflict between various forms of truth-telling. It seems to me that religions and too many of the wider public suffer from the inability to distinguish between the three ways we engage with truth – what Wilber calls the I, WE and IT ways (subjective truth as in artistic expression, moral truth as derived from a belief system and objective truth as derived from scientific process).
Fundamentalism confounds via absurd literalism and lack of compassion but it also usually confounds through not being able to separate out the various truth claims. Religious truth is always subjective encounter with mystery. The only measure of a persons beliefs and religious experience = how good a life are they leading – otherwise whether you or I belief in fairies, aliens, Madonna or a Messenger of God has no value and is of little importance.

The Church of England also says the same about Darwin’s theory.

Roger,
I’m in the process of reading Saving Darwin by Karl Giberson. Very interesting and I highly recommend it. Actually found it in our library!
